CVS -- 101 Guide

CVS SHOPPING

CVS Offers:

Extra Care Bucks- CVS has a loyalty program and tracks purchases with a card called the Extra Care Bucks card. If you don't have an Extra Care Bucks card, you can get one in the store and use it immediately.
The Extra Care Bucks program gives you cash back on purchases you make in stores and online. You will earn 2% cash back in the form of Extra Care Bucks every three months. They will print in the form of a little coupon on the bottom of your receipt.
CVS will also have Extra Care Bucks deals each week in the store. There is a limit on how many of the same product you can buy AND get the ECB's. (If the limit is 2, you can still buy 3, you just won't get the ECB's back for any the 3rd item.) Sometimes you will get the entire purchase price back in the form of Extra Care Bucks, essentially making the item free.

You can also use coupons on these deals to turn it into a moneymaker. For example:
Crest toothpaste- $2.99, get $2.99 ECB (limit 2)
Buy 2 Crest toothpastes= $5.98
Use 2 $1.00/1 coupons = pay $3.98
Get back ECB's for both items purchased = $5.98
= after ECB's you made $2.00 and you have 2 free tubes of toothpaste.

Rolling of ECB's- Once you get used to shopping at CVS, you can start "rolling" your Extra Care Bucks and keep your out of pocket expenses low. For example, in the scenario above, you could use the $5.98 you have in ECB's the next week at CVS on something else that is generating ECB's. For example:
                     week 1:
Crest toothpaste- $2.99, get $2.99 ECB (limit 2)
Buy 2 Crest toothpastes= $5.98
Use 2 $1.00/1 coupons = pay $3.98 out of pocket
Get back ECB's for both items purchased = $5.98
= after ECB's you made $2.00 and you have 2 free tubes of toothpaste.
                   week 2:
Pantene hair care products- $2.50, buy $10 worth, get $5 ECB (limit 1)
Buy 4 Pantene hair card products = $10
use 4 $1.00/1 coupons = $6
pay with your $5.98 in ECB's from week 1 (pay tax out of pocket)
Get back $5 in ECB's
= free! You "rolled" your ECB's into new ECB's for the next week!

CVS Store coupons- CVS offers their own store coupons that can be stacked with manufacturer coupons. You can find these coupons at the end of your receipt, by scanning your ECB card at the red kiosk in the front of the store, you can sometimes print them online, or find them in newspapers and magazines. In the scenarios above, if there were CVS store coupons available, you could use them WITH the manufacturer coupons to save even more.

*CVS also has "Money off a certain amount" coupons that you can use with all your other coupons. For example, they often have $5 off $25 coupons that will take $5 off your grand total BEFORE any other coupons you're redeeming. This helps to bring your total down, cover the left overs that your coupons didn't cover, and helps you to get things for free. You'll want to give this coupon to your cashier first. These coupons will also be at the end of your receipt, at the card scanner kiosk at the front of the store, or in your email! Make sure you sign up with or update your email address with your Extra Care card and you'll start receiving these coupons.
